School mural at St. Antony’s RC in Manchester
Something a bit different to the normal character-based murals I do for younger children…
St. Antony’s RC school in Stretford, Manchester commissioned me to create three murals for the corridor walls of their Religious Education department.
Firstly, I researched St. Anthony of Padua, and created a design based on a traditional religious motif, using gold to give it some pop!
The second mural space was tucked away in a corner, but opposite a lift and next to a window - the perfect place for the ‘Let the light…’ mural using a bespoke, hand-painted script font.
Last but not least, the main mural was a floor-to-ceiling piece, about 5m wide. I worked with the school to design ‘Our Common Home’, focussing on ‘nature’ as the central theme.
Here are the rough sketches I did to get client approval before starting, which were created to scale so I could project ‘St Antony’ and ‘Let the Light…’, helping to align the text on both of them. The ‘Common Home’ was way too big to be projected, so that was entirely freehand.
